Our Foundation

At The Great Indian Workout we believe fitness doesn’t always need shiny machines or intimidating gyms. For centuries, India has had its own powerful fitness tradition through taalim and akhada training with handcrafted wooden equipment like the Mudgar, Gada, Samtola and Shena. With urbanization this culture slowly started to fade away, but we are here to keep it alive.

Founded in 2020 by Swapnil Dangarikar in Nashik, Maharashtra, TGIW was born out of the need to revive India’s authentic workout methods and share them with the world. What began as Swapnil crafting mudgars for his own home workouts soon turned into a movement as people discovered the unmatched strength, balance and joy of training with traditional tools.

Today we work out of a dedicated workshop and retail space in Nashik where each piece of equipment is proudly handcrafted. Our range includes age-old classics like the Bheem Gada and Classic Mudgar along with innovative signature TGIW designs created through deep research and a love for fitness. Every product is made with attention to detail, durability and consumer comfort while staying true to Indian roots.

TGIW is more than just equipment. It is about keeping alive a culture of strength, discipline and community. With customers across India and around the world we continue to spread awareness of authentic Indian fitness practices, proudly Handmade in Nashik.

Whether you are just starting your fitness journey or looking to connect with your roots, TGIW welcomes you with open arms and maybe a gada or two!

Our Philosophy

The Great Indian Workout isn’t a faceless corporation. It is proudly Indian, with every product handmade in Nasik, India. The team works closely with local artisans, ensuring ethical sourcing, fair wages, and authentic craftsmanship.

The philosophy is simple: consumer-first, transparent, and quality-focused. Customers aren’t pushed towards heavy weights or unsafe practices. Instead, the brand encourages gradual progress, recommending tools based on individual experience. This builds trust and creates a fitness journey that’s supportive, approachable, and empowering - exactly what heritage fitness was always meant to be.

Our Process

1. Procurement of Wood
We begin by carefully sourcing the right type of wood, chosen according to the weight, shape, and design of each product. This ensures strength, balance, and durability right from the start.

2. Quality Check
Every piece of wood undergoes a strict quality check for size, appearance, and condition—whether seasoned or fresh. Only the finest wood is selected for production.

3. Turning Process
The wood is shaped on turning machines to achieve the precise design, dimensions, and weight balance required for traditional training tools. This is where raw timber starts to take its final form.

4. Product Finishing
The surface is rubbed with polishing paper followed by an application of sealer coat and final hand polishing. This creates a smooth finish that feels comfortable and safe in the hands.

5. Logo Marking
Each product is marked with the TGIW logo. This is a seal of authenticity and craftsmanship.

6. Protective Wrapping and Box Sealing
The finished tool is wrapped in foam sheets and bubble wrap, then secured with self-adhesive BOP tape. This protects it from scratches or damage during transport. The wrapped product is placed in a sturdy 5-ply box of the right size. This ensures a snug and safe fit.

7. Ready to Dispatch
Finally, the packed parcel is sent to the courier office for dispatch. From here, it begins its journey to your doorstep.
